You can use markers, colored pencils, watercolor, or crayons. as long as you color.

 To make my card I used a cute set that I found at a stamp store when I was in Arizona. I stamped the cacti and then masked it off and created the background with distress oxide inks. I removed the mask and colored the image using Copic markers
